Oh the Thinks You Can Think! Seussical the Musical Jr.

Pulaski County K-8th grade students present
Seussical the Musical Jr.
oh the thinks you can think......
Directed by the wonderful High school drama teacher Jeff McCoy and his drama class students
April 11-13, 2013
Cailin was an amazing bird girl who knew all the steps, words and songs....and the others really followed her lead. (After her first performance she complained that none of the others were going on stage at the right time. I told her, "you go, and the others will follow"  She was skeptical, but the next time her group were on stage, she did it.  Mr. McCoy, who was quite frustrated with the bird girls as a collective for not singing, knowing the word and choreography well, noticed the difference.  He mentioned to me how thrilled he was of Cailin's performance.  I'm so proud of her courage to be a leader and mentor to the others.)

Delaney was cast as one of the Sour Kangaroo's.  Admittedly, I was nervous.  She had three solo parts and I didn't know how she would do on stage performing a solo part.
I didn't need to worry at all.  She did amazing too.  She was suppose to be sassy, sour and full of attitude.  My sweet girl was all that and more.  She sang beautifully (one month later I still get comments about what a super job she did), she was loud and confident...she even added a zip of sassiness to the part that wasn't originally planned for.

Liam was an animal in the Jungle of Nool.  He had quite the learning curve.  Since the day he was born he's been a Velcro child.  Helping him find autonomy has been a quest of mine.  I was thrilled during the audition period that he went off with out me, no problems what so ever.  That changed during the 5-6 weeks of rehearsal.   He would melt down if he didn't see me out in the audience watching as they practiced.   Towards the end, I used bribery.....uh, I mean positive reinforcement measures.  It's amazing how a sucker can change attitude quiet quickly.  He did say he felt like crying the one day I had to leave him, (even though Delaney and Cailin, friends Janet and  Celia were there.) But he did it!  so well that during the plays itself, when he knew I wasn't there he was fine --and this was done without the prize of a sucker!

All three learned so much, overcame personal obstacles and had loads of fun!!
Cailin bemoans the fact that next year is her last year doing these plays.  I mentioned this to Mr. McCoy and he promptly told me that there are other homeschoolers who take part in his classes.  This doesn't have to be the end for her.  She was quite excited by that bit of news.  We may be a drama filled family on stage and off for many years to come!!

The Jungle of Nool
There were two casts. When Delaney wasn't on stage as the Sour Kangaroo, she played  a part in the Jungle of Nool.

Sour Kangaroo telling Horton the Elephant that he was CRAZY!!

Cailin, Janet, Delaney and Liam after the show.
Brianne got a bit tired of sitting for 4 shows, but she loved the music and loved to dance.  After the show she danced a bit for us.
What a charmer!!

A Spring Photo Shoot

After church I packed the kids into the suburban and headed toward the campus of NRCC to take their "school" pictures.

The other day Ryan needed a photo of his head--from all sides--for a computer program that he needed to write for his C++ class.  He came home telling me that my camera has 70 pixels and cameras now on the market have 300 pixels....hummm, I guess I need to get a new one.  After today, realizing how many of the pictures I took are slightly blurry, I think I will be looking into getting one soon!

Anyhow, here are my adorable children....

Brianne's Spring Pictures

Usually, this little cherub is all smiles and posing for the camera, however, for some reason today she would hardly look at the camera.  Playing on the grass and inspecting the flowers were much more interesting.
