FIAR-- a trip to Dixie Caverns

Don't you just love serendipity like moments....we have been rowing through the book Amber on the Mountain   when a fellow home school mom posted a field trip she had set up for the Dixie Caverns.  We have been learning about different mountains, where they are located, how they are formed etc. etc.  We've also learned about caves and caverns, so this trip was a true serendipitous moment--what a coincident.  We quickly signed up and looked forward to the upcoming trip.

We had a great time enjoying the internal sights the Lord has created.... stalactites and stalagmites, ribbons and flows.  Amazing!!   At one point we even saw where a fault line ran through Virginia.  Just a little creepy.

On our way home we stopped for a yummy hot fudge or caramel sundae....topped with peanuts of course.

They were only allowed to touch this one stalagmite in the cave....the wishing stump.
This is the wedding bell....legened has is that if you stand under it and water drips on you, you will be married with in 8 years.  Delaney had a drop fall on her and was quite concerned with this prediction.  I had to chuckle and assure her it was just an old wives' tale...not the truth.  "Besides mom, I'm going to marry in the temple...not here!"   They have had about 8 or so weddings at this spot in the cavern.
Our group was divided into two tours, here is our happy bunch of spelunkers.

This is the Virginia fault line.

  1. Yeah...the fault line would have freaked me out a little.

I love that Delaney's biggest concern was that she was getting married in the temple...not there!
