For the past few weeks Connor has enjoyed a study of wolves. It started when he read the book 'Julie of the Wolves' by Jean Craighead George. That book was followed by the next two books of Julie in the trilogy ...as a note, it usually takes Connor about a month to read a bigger book, he finished these 200+ page books in less than a week. He then got a slew of non-fictional books on wolves and read them all.
To put all this wonderful knowlege to use, he created a diarama of the types of dens wolves make.
The green side is the summer welping den. When the pups are born they live with their mother in the one entrance welping den. They stay in there for about five weeks. By then their eyes are open and they want to explore. They run around, play and explore for about three months. Then comes the winter months.....

Here the pups play outside their 'pupping den', which has two entrances, while an adult wolf watches the little ones play. They love to rough house and eventually they go out with the rest of the pack to hunt. By this time they are 9 months old and are considered adults, even though they still have to grow a bit more physically. After two to three litters the pack will break up and more packs are created. Depending on how large the original pack's teriitory was the new packs may have to search for new land to build thier dens on. And thus goes the cycle of the wolf.
What a great example of TJED!
