Grandpa and bacon waffles...the two just seamlessly go together! Mmmm we all love Grandpa's waffles for breakfast...and now we have Grandma's buttermilk syrup to drool over and dream about too. She was introduced to this wonderful syrup by a friend and loved it. She shared it with us and we love!! it too!
The week was filled with fun family games, movies and working in the garden (yep, it was warm enough to work in the garden) Barry and Dad got the entire garden tilled, fertilized and ready for spring planting.
Out takes....funny faces
Grandpa's Famous Bacon Waffles
bacon strips fried according to your desire (I like it crispy well, done...Barry says "a little less done for me" to which I say "Ooooo gross!"
2 c. flour
1T. sugar
4 T. baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 cube melted margarine
2 egg yolks
1 3/4 c. milk
Mix all these together. With a mixer beat 2 egg whites (as if you're going to make meregine ) Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.
Heat waffle iron. Add enough batter to make waffle and top with fried bacon strips. If your like Connor, you'll want it entirely covered with bacon!)
Fry waffle and when done enjoy with lots of yummy syrup--our new favorite buttermilk syrup.
Grandma's Famous Buttermilk Syrup
3/4 c. butter milk
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 stick real butter (a must!)
2 T. corn syrup
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
In a large saucepan combine buttermilk, sugar, real butter, corn syrup, and baking soda. Bring to a boil and cook for 9 minutes, stirring frequently. When finished add the vanilla then serve.
Enjoy over waffles, french toast, blonde brownies or ice cream. Mmmm, delish!
Store leftover (if there are any) in the fridge. Warm up to use again as it will harden when stored in the refrigerator.
