In an effort to "inspire, not require" --a TJEd principle-- we have created a bean jar. For every school item, worksheet, project activity, or page completed in a book the kids add a bean to a jar. When the jar is full we CELEBRATE!! Now, I knew that for this to work I would have to overcome one of my greatest flaws, I would have to be timely in actually 'doing the reward'. I would have to promptly reward the kids, or the zest of the bean jar would diminish. Ahhh, but who could have predicted that just as the jar was finished the van would die--it actually left me stranded on the side of the road. It took about a week (and $500.) to get the van back, but we did go for the promised treat.....Frozen Yogurt at BTO's in Radford. For family home evening we headed out on a cool rainy December night and enjoyed delicious frozen yogurt with many topping choices. I think the favorite flavor was chocolate truffle, eggnog, strawberry daiquiri, and pumpkin pie....Mmmmmm
We all worked to contribute to the jar...and we all enjoyed the wonderful night of celebration too!!
The kids enjoyed it so much that they want to go back there for our next 'full bean jar celebration'!
