Barry tells me that as often as I move furniture around it's a good thing that nobody in our family is sight impaired because they would constantly be struggling to find their way around our home. Humph! He's right....in the past I have moved things around and painted rooms often, however......I can honestly say that I haven't move anything for over a year! I don't have time... until now!
Today I really did it. Today I admittedly became a 'Helen Keller nightmare"
Goodbye center kitchen island.....hello kitchen table! This has been a bit of an adjustment, but I'm glad. We are sitting down more as we eat. I also have an amazing amount of space. I didn't realize how much of a space hog the island was.
This room is the reason for the change....this use to be the computer-den/family room. Here we played video games and watched TV...along with the computer needs. However, Barry is starting his master program with Liberty University on the 18th and we needed a room that is quiet. Connor and Ryan needed this too, so we moved the TV out, brought in the bookshelves and a table and ta-da, there you have it a school room-den that is entirely for studying!
The dining room is now the den. I've always felt this room should serve this purpose, but I just couldn't figure out what to do with the table. The youngers, Liam and Bri, play more with their toys now too. Getting rid of the island was a really good thing!
I asked Christine (an architect), if this would work. She pulled out a tape measure and did some measuring and gave me ideas as to placements and then said, "yes" this will work. When I told Barry that Christine gave her thumbs up to the project, he groaned and said "I'm going to have to have a talk with her. Okay Helen Keller nightmare, have at it!" So I did and.... he likes it! No, I think he really, really really likes it. (I'll never say love, but that's just not him!), but this was a great change. Our home feels more cozy and complete. See, sometimes changing things around is a good thing. I don't think I'll do anymore big changes, well at least for a year. Dad, when you get back home from your mission we'll have to talk about moving the laundry room to the bathroom down stairs, Christine....and Barry! has given me the go ahead! Yeah!!!!
We really love the changes you made to the areas...Dad smiled when you mentioned changing the laundry area...yeah, another project...he does love projects!! (He really does.) Great job...great feel to the rooms.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I love "homey" rooms and the used-to-be-dining-room is now so homey and nice!! Great change!!
ReplyDeleteI looks fantastic, Vicki!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh at Barry's reaction of having to have, "a talk" with Christine.
I love that you made your home more cozy and complete :)
