Pumpkin's World by Delaney Hale

Delaney wrote a cleaver story about Pumpkin her cat. It comes from Pumpkin's point of view.  I love watching her blossom and grow in all aspects of her life...especially in her imagination and creative writing.

Pumpkin's World

 Hi my name is Pumpkin.  I've seen a lot of weird things.  I'll tell you a bit if you sit down.  Here's a chair.

 Now the first thing is to dodge feet.  Let's practice!
I'm sad to say but your chair did not do so well.
It's broken.
I hope you do better.

 I'm glad you got that down because your chair did not.  Next we go to Delaney's room. 
Oh, she's just reading a book!

 Well some times I come in and she is changing her fur.  I'm serious! And it can be any color: blue, green, orange, purple, pink, black, brown, yellow, red, any color.

 Time to go to Cailin's room, home sweet home.  Here's my litter box, water dish, and food. I can go under beds and other stuff.

 Now I will tell you about the family room!  I love it. You can go in the rocking chair and sometimes bite people.

 Time for the school room, a nice place.  Sometimes there is fur [laying around], sometimes there is not.  But the best part is relaxing in sunshine and sunlight.

Time for the bathroom.    BITE   "Bad Pumpkin"  See I got in!



Delaney cleverly wrote about Pumpkin and seeing our home through his eyes.  While at the vet's office recently, the girls were admonished not to let him bite people...even in play.  Well Cailin has been extremely diligent in this.  Every single time he bites....he is put it "time-out", other wise known as the bathroom.  This doesn't seem to bother him to much, so she's up the punishment and removed the towels and rugs....now he just gets in the bathtub and plays with the toys in there.  He's so much at home in the bathroom that he often joins the occupant of a shower, just skirting the edge so as not to get too wet.  Although there are time when he loses his footing and gets quite soaked.  He particularly loves Bri's and Liam's bubble baths.---Vicki
Delaney's story is quite accurate in how she depicts the world that Pumpkin lives in, at least from a human's perspective. I think that the only one that feels Pumpkin is meeting with his deserts of criminal activity by being put in the bathroom is his warden Cailin. I hear him throwing shampoo bottles around and having a good time. It is like the bathroom is his private playground and usually he is not bothered by humans pestering him.
I should also point out that what the warden doesn't know is that Liam and Pumpkin are solidly in cahoots together. Those two play extremely rough with Liam usually coming off the worst. It does not seem to bother him much, within a short time they are at it again. Although the girls claim this cat as thier own, he claims the family as his. All the world is a playground.
Pumpkin is a criminal at heart, he does not play fair. He conducts ambushes from the stairs as you walk by and attacks Liam's feet whenever possible. He is not above climbing under the covers and launching surprise assaults as you are attempting to go to sleep.(This actually happened to Vicki and and I as we were trying to go to sleep one night)  He also has the very bad habit of climbing on the kitchen table. This has earned him meeting the water bottle many times, He does not like water when it is dispensed like that. All of this is in the life of an active dumpster cat. ---Barry
