American Artist Study at CC

We've just completed a six week study of American artist in our Classical Conversations classes.
  This year we learned about:
Grandma Moses
Norman Rockwell
Georgia O'Keeffe
Andrew Wyeth
 Roy Lichtenstein
Jim Davis

I got a few photos of the girls painting after the manner of Roy Lichtenstein.  He was a famous pop artist.  He favored comic-strip as subject matter.  He's particularly famous for using dots and writing interjections in bubbles as if a person is say Bam! Pop! Wow! WHAAM!
We used the end of a pencil to paint with.

We also learned about Jim Davis, author of the "Garfield" comic strip.  He grew up on a small farm in Indiana and had asthma as a child, thus he stayed indoors quite a bit.  To keep himself busy he drew a lot, and found that he had a talent for it.
Above is Delaney's 3part comic strip that she drew based on Pete and Bailey, our family dogs.
Norman Rockwell was known for taking everyday stories--incidents in people's lives and depicting them in picture form.   Cailin wrote a story about an evil man and a cat at Taco Bell....she then illustrated her story, in Rockwell fashion for class.
Their paintings after the manner of Lichtenstein.
Here is Cailin's comic strip about cats.
....and one she painted on the back of her hand.  Quite clever and cute! ( Oh how she hates that word!!)
