An Animal Classification Lapbook

Delaney and I spent most of Friday putting this lapbook together.  We were tired at the end of the day, yet we had a great time working together and learning about classifying system created by Carl Linnaeus in the 1700's for all living things.

We focused on the Animal Kingdom...we'll learn more about the Plant Kingdom, Monera, Fungi and Protista Kingdoms later.
She learned about the animals kingdom being divided into two phylum--vertebrates and invertebrates.
Carl Linnaeus is known as the Father of Taxonomy.  He especially loved flora and fauna, but did organize by characteristics all living things by...
Kingdom
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species
...you can remember this by saying   "Kings play chess of fine glass sets."
The Verterates classes-- amphibian, bird, fish, mammals, reptile
most of the information had a flip, slide, fold or spin aspect to finding the information.
I created this addition using clip art and Word.
 Invertebrates classes-- mollusk,arthropods, annelid, echinoderm.
We've created these before, when Cailin was younger.  It really wasn't something she liked to do,  So I'm glad that Delaney does like making them.  We'll have to made more.  I found the template for the lapbook on www.homeschoolshare.com site under free lapbooks tag.
Now, we're off to learning more about each of the classes...
