Lessons learned in gardening

Last spring, I had some left over carrot seed from a few years past...it was about 5 years old.  I wanted to just get rid of it, but I couldn't throw it away, so I just planted it all and hoped that some would germinate....well it sure did!....lesson learned--carrot seeds can be old but, it's still viable.
I had so many carrots growing....but for some reason, I just couldn't thin them....but I should have.  Lesson learned--carrots really need to be thinned when you over plant, or they come out like this (see above two photos).
Again, for some reason, I just didn't get them picked...I think I was hoping they would get bigger (but they couldn't without thinning, see previous lesson learned) and they ended up being in the ground for one whole year.  Lesson learned--although they all didn't get very big, they did well in the ground for the year and still  taste good when cooked!
I did get a few "normal" sized carrots....the rest will be scrubbed clean and made into soup!
